I'm really interested in capturing the clouds above in my own images.Without the scene of the rays of light breaking through i dont think the image would be as interesting to view.

I'm basing my still life around nude and seeing this gave me the idea of using a polaroid maybe to shoot parts of the body like shown above .

Evaluation

Using both digital and film had both pros and cons for me and i cannot say which i would prefer to use more than the other .There both very different from another and yet the same just very different processes.

I  have never really dealt in digital so using the Canon 5D i felt clueless.I do think taking the camera and studio home and improvising was the best decision i could have made.I found i was over thinking everything in the studio and not really getting anything done unlike i did at home. This was mainly because i felt i had more time to spend adjusting the lighting to my satisfaction and not being a rushed process when in the studio.I also found working on my own i wasn't depending on someone there to help me if i was unsure of something, i kind of just had to figure it out.It was defiantly a learning curve and i think its something ill stick too in the future,if it would meani can do something best to my ability by working alone.
Never experienced doing landscape or using  the 4x5 camera but surprisingly  i felt comfortable and confident setting the camera up,loading the film and adjusting the camera settings. The only downfall in this area is being unable to drive i felt very dependent on people with choice of my locations i felt i would've have ventured further.Apart from that i felt i was more knowledgeable with landscape.I think i would of benefited more if i had put more time and effort in my blogging but overall I'm happy with the outcome of my images in both still and landscape.

Ghost Cities - China

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm7rOKT151Y

After watching Edward Burtynskys documentary Manufactured landscapes i started to research other aspects of China like its abandoned cities  which i was instantly hooked on which led to various research of other abandoned buildings and cities.I decided i would try to conduct some kind of  theme through my landscape. Which would consist on industrial environment that surrounds us and the waste ruin which has been abandoned.

I think this is relevant to landscape then and .I like the idea of photographing industrial and abandoned buildings simply because i personally think its more interesting to view, like the images above.Deserted and eerie but so much detail keeping you drawn to it.

I  am immediately drawn to this image as its the not the land the captures you its the sky with dark bulks of clouds and the light trying to break through .I like how intense the image feels yet deserted.

whether its just my personal taste, but i prefer a black back drops in still life like for instance if this had been a white backdrop i think the objects would've just blended in and not had the same impact .

I like idea of using something so simple and creating two photos as one.

Still Life

Leaving still life until last i think really benefited me in the sense i gained a whole new confidence working with equipment unlike in the studio where there constant support if you need it.I feel i had more time to set and re-adjust  with light settings if needed and there was no rush process.

This image is taken from document magazine.I like how advertising of Chanel perfume has been thought of as  "thinking outside the box" .The fact the model is nude draws you right in to the selling product .

Again here the use of light is shown to define the muscles in the upper back and the spine.

I think nude can either look really cheap or it can have a kind of fine art elegance to it like this. The fact nothing is visible yet everything we can see is bare, its very subtle.what looks like cast of light either side of his or her arms really defines the the outer shape and muscle of the arms.

Portraiture Evaluation

Portraiture Evaluation

I've never experienced doing portraiture, so this was pretty new to me. if  i'm honest i didn't think researching portraits would be so hard but then when briefed more on portraiture in group sessions it was hard to establish what it was. I initially thought it could range from family/individual portraits to editorial but that is not so.I used a variety of research throughout such tumblr one of my main sources, along with my own books and library books.

I booked the studio but had  never used a studio before this, or a hasslebald and as such this was a little nerving but just having a play around with the camera.Getting used to the fact your seeing your image back to front, this can be frustrated at times while try to make sure your image is in focus, but doing this made it all the more easier to shoot.Editing my images was something i enjoyed, even though i feel as though i need  to progress in this area so it need not feel so daunting. I think i have to stop worrying so much and let things flow and just accept that in order to understand what i am doing i have to get things wrong. For example sending my images of to the lab to be printed, only to pick them up and realize i edited them to the wrong size and i now have 20" by 24" inch images, to my knowledge i thought id actually gotten everything right and was feeling very organised.

So for my  final images i'm handed both 20" by 24" C-type and also exactly the same images just printed to the correct size, A3. Overall i'm happy with my final results although with appropriate planning i could of done a lot more.I think that is one of the major errors for me. If i was do anything different i would plan more studio time trying a variety of ideas even if i doubted them and give myself plenty off time to send my images off so if anything does go wrong i have the time to correct them.
i enjoyed using the studio and know that the more time i spend shooting the more i will feel confidently doing both Studio and set up.My initial ideas where to do nude portraits but this never followed through so advice to myself would be to follow through with initial ideas or any ideas in general whats the worst that happen.

I like this portrait because i feel the photographer is capturing what looks to be some kind of break down  moment for individual.I think because of unemotional body language and distressing clothing.

I really like the idea of shooting a sequel of images which the model body language and actions are different in each.I also really admire the layout rather than just having individual prints.

I regret not spending more time in the studio as i would of liked to have added cigarette smoke to my images just to see what kind off results i would have gotten. For instance i like how the photographer has captured the smoke hanging around the eye areas giving the model a dark deranged look.

I have chosen this image as it relates to my studio portraits and final prints like the model/actress in this portrait all my images have an occurring theme in which the models are bare from the shoulders up.What i like about this image is how both the foreground and background compliment each other even though they have similar tones but with the shadowing on the left hand side creates a dividing line between the two.I also like how i'm drawn in by the eyes which are set against the flawless skin.

Nerve Damage

http://nevedamage.tumblr.com/

I like how portraiture can be outside the studio and the backdrop outside doesn't necessarily always distract you from the subject in the foreground. But i also find when viewing the image anyway you are drawn straight into  the face which i think the subjects has very distinctive features .

This photograph is taken off a photographer whose work i admire .I really like how the photographer has darkened the backdrop as it only adds emphasis and definition to the  aging skin of this women which looks  well lived in .I feel like the more lines and creases one person has, makes you think what kind of a life that person has led. Also when you look at the deep set eyes they make you feel almost like your looking into never ending black pool.

I find Irving takes on portraiture refreshing, i really admire how the photographer has placed the subjects in this confined spaces making them look slightly awkward and uncomfortable.

Another find on tumblr showing then and now portraits using the same characteristics with same or similar locations.I like the idea creating portraits over a period of time to show the development and change and growth of a person instead off having just one still image.I think doing this you would could create a kind documentation through images of one persons cycle through life.

Paul Bennett - Portraits 2008

http://a-mass-musing.tumblr.com/

I've found a new method of doing research using tumblr this is where i found these intriguing portraits/paintings. I'm not sure what the inspiration or meanings are behind these images, but for myself when viewing them i feel they illustrate a women being stripped of there vanity. It kind off inspires me to create portraits of models stripped and bared of there vanity necessities to show face behind the mask which can often reveal natural beauty.
