I have found creating a photo book more on the difficult side mainly because i struggled to form an idea but once i had eventually found something i could explore it became more appealing.I chose to document my time in New York and had chosen to use my film camera as the equivalent of choice .With this i had formed a theme A journey through the streets of New York although i found the title to be a little predictable there was no other way to describe it other than what you see.I found this module to more appealing because it was putting a themed collection of your work together and placing in a book yet this was more time challenging than anything i had done trying to be precise with where you wanted everything to be and how you what it to look but overall i am happy with the outcome and think that i have been precise in the choice of title and theme.

Photo book research

Francesca Woodman

Another inspiring book, this book has a more minimalist approach . The image on the cover is small and barely takes up any room with the title just the name of the photographer boldly stated underneath no fuss more to the point. From what i can gather the images go in order from the photographers early images and goes on to progress into later work .

Trying to decide on a front cover image has proven difficult  as i think the front cover represents the book as a whole and what's in store inside. Its also the first image the viewer sees and i personally think that if the image looks a appealing your more likely to be interested in what's going on inside. The above image is an image i am thinking i want to represent my book .

Photo book research

Elliott Erwitt

Personal Best

There is a consistency with the books i have researched with the overlapping images on two pages and the sizing of images. This book is similar although in a larger form.I am inspired by this book because of the amount of documentation genres it covers even though its a collection of what I'm gathering is his personal best it gives the viewer a chance to see through the photographers eyes and everything he has witnessed and been able to capture. The book has large images which cover two pages and every now and again you come across a simple image that's not clustered with people, the image placed on the right hand side and the left completely white maybe suggesting or acting as a divider or time-out to all the large spread images.

Robert Doisneau

by Jean-Claude Gautrand

I chose this book as part of my research because its a little different from the others i have looked at for example it has dividers which is simply  a page which separates images, it also in colour and indicates the year and place the following photos are taken.I think this is an important factor it helps the person viewing the image maybe understand it a little better.Like johnny stiletto photo book this is simply where all images do not consist of the same size.

Vintage 80s

London street photography by Johnny Allen

This is and inspiring book in terms of layout and the photos created , the book does not have a consist flow where the layout of images are in various sizes but this works for example the last image above showing the photographer taking a documentation of people on the tube and has chosen to have this overlapped across the page with description and details which is pleasing to view because its different from having one image on every page .There is connection with images on every other page yet they may have been taken at completely times or places, for example with the third and fourth images above showing a connection the similarity being  people leaving there current location.

Photo book ideas

I have chosen to base my photo book around documentation of a journey through city streets.Which is based around a trip to New York , my choice of equipment for documentation is a film camera which was successful but running out of film over lapsed into using my phone to continue the documenting my experience and surroundings.Below are some images that will be included.

These where taken with my iPhone due to the fact i had ran out film, i found this interestingly easy to do because your less obvious and go unnoticed unlike when you have a camera in your hand.I started to photograph everything and anything and have been lucky to have captured a series of images which have a connection for example the above are based around people walking to towards me and express body language and facial expressions.
