more 35mm portrait research

Again part of my large format research using 35mm. When. When researching photographers such as Richard Avedon what i was inspired most by, was the portraits he took of real working class people where full of character whether it be a stern look or just a simply smile it's the way he was able to capture every crook and crease in that person face.Although these photographs are only of children i liked to think they both have character through expression.

Richard Avedon - America West

Inspirational portraits from Avedon showing everyday life of an working american.I admire the use of a white backdrop almost as if nothing else is supposed to draw your eye other than the subject in the foreground. The images feels disheartening and full of grimness and looks full of sheer dirt and grittiness .Yet its pleasing to view your looking at real people which i think is Avedon concept in this exhibition.

Mary-Ellen Mark Portraiture

When thinking about creating a series of  of portraits my first thought is to create image of the subject in a straight forward up and down shot.As i began to research artists there can be a lot more thought and creativity put into it , giving the subject in the image a motive or a concept a kind of deeper meaning.Like the portrait above i think there is a hidden or fairly obvious concept within, depending on the viewer . For me the image has a good breathing space because it simply made me think on the connections between the subject and the subjects in the photo frame.

Mark-Ellen Mark Portraiture

The format of this portrait shows the subject dominating the foreground as it takes up the majority of space, with that and the image showing some kind of movement and the balance between the subject and foreground creating similiar tones. With all these elements the image is aestheticlly  pleasing to view.
